“Other people are obsessed with calories, nutritional value, antioxidants. I look at food and wonder: Can I eat that without having to put my book down?”
🔖 Welcome to Miracle Springs: hot springs, renowned restaurants, comfort scones and healing books: the perfect place to visit, at least until a businessman is found dead. To help with the investigations, Miracle Books’ owner Nora Pennington forms the Secret, Book, and Scone Society: a group of damaged souls looking for redemption eager to help others and uncover the corruption that threatens Miracle Springs.
♥️ I liked:
📚 Nora’s bookshop: books can heal people, soothe our souls and make our lives better, teaching us very important lessons.
📜 The quotes at the beginning of each chapter.
👪 The characters, all of them. Nora is my favourite: I love her bookshop, her place, her bravery and her strength, even if she is very good at hiding her true self. I also enjoyed reading about Hester, Estella and June: very different women, but their friendship grows stronger and stronger. There is no need to say that I loved Jedediah as well and that I hated the sheriff!
✍️ How it’s written. I was having a look at the quotes I wanted to include in this review, and it’s been really hard to choose only one!
👪 The sharing. I loved the idea of the women getting to know and trust each other by sharing their darkest secrets.
🤔 I wasn’t so sure about:
The darkest secrets. The only thing that bothered me a bit is the complicated and tragic stories behind the women. I thought it was a bit too much, not realistic enough, even though it was essential to the plot.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 stars It’s not your usual cosy mystery, it’s something more!
