Graceling by Kristin Cashore – Book review

Fantasy, YA.

The Plot

Katsa is a Graceling: one of the rare people in her land born with an extreme skill. Hers is killing, and she’s forced to be her uncle’s – the king – thug. At least till she decides to rescue Grandfather Tealiff, meets Prince Po and starts understanding that one of the Seven Kingdoms is hiding something.

❤️ What I liked about Graceling by Kristin Cashore

👩 Katsa. She is strong, stronger than any other man or woman in the kingdoms. She has been killing and threatening people for her uncle since she was a kid, but now she wants to change. She has absolutely no people skills, zero, nada… and this makes the book quite funny. She is afraid to lose control because she doesn’t know what she’s really capable of. She has to learn to accept herself and her Grace.

👀 The Grace. In the Graceling Realm, those born with different coloured eyes are blessed with a Grace that can be anything from the mundane (holding your breath indefinitely) to the cruel (mind control). I found this idea A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.

🤴 Po and the Lienid people. They sound like the nicest people in the seven kingdoms. They live on a beautiful island, family is sacred and, when the king goes away, his wife rules, not his sons. I almost wanted to move there myself!

To the score

⭐⭐⭐ ⭐ 4/5 Not only the cover is stunning, but the story is entertaining, the setting amazing and Katsa and Po lovely. What else do you want? I am so glad to have found this in my last @bookandteabox!
