❤️ What I liked about His Only Wife by Peace Adzo Medie
👩🏿 Afi. She is just a kid at the beginning of the book. She believes in anything her family tells her. But moving to Accra makes her good: she starts creating a life of her own, trying to take advantage of all the opportunities that her marriage to Eli presents. She starts attending a fashion school, builds her own brand and starts selling clothes in a posh boutique at the airport. She eventually falls in love with Eli and thinks they can build a life together. But can they?a woman”.
👩🏿👩🏽👩🏾 Women. I was expecting a strong and feminist book condemning the condition of women in Ghana, but the message is quite subtle. The story shows how women have all adapted to a society where even the most privileged are and will always be subject to men.
👩🏾 Muna. She is the other woman, the one Eli lives with. I really felt sorry for her. She is described by Eli’s family as grumpy, always angry, not nice to be around. But the simple truth is that she just didn’t want to succumb to what his family wanted her to be: a puppet in their hands.
